At just 19 years of age multi-instrumental Singer/Songwriter Andrew Redford has very little standing in the way of his creativity. He has received recognition, both locally and internationally for his creative songwriting. At just 17 in 2009 he took out the Teen QSong Award in Queensland. Currently Andrew is treading new territory, leaving his prior acoustic stylings behind in favour of more complex arrangements.

A bumper year in 2010 saw him awarded the coveted Billy Thorpe Scholarship, a music scholarship providing funds for recording and meetings with Michael Chugg (Chugg Entertainment) and Seb Chase (MGM).
He recorded his debut ‘City’ EP at seventeen years old. Followed by self produced and recorded ‘She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not’, both being accepted for radio distribution to AMRAP’s AirIt and receiving national airplay.

With his music featured in surf films such as the New Zealand film Flux, Andrew is a beach kid at heart, he is best described as the quiet achiever who knows where he’s going and is determined to arrive there in one piece. Spending much of his childhood sailing the east coast of Australia with his parents, he now calls the Sunshine Coast home, and his music reflects this strong element of his personality. Andrew’s music is a moving and beautiful layered journey, mixing indie, folk, and pop/rock to create a unique blend of melodic soft rock. Steadfast in his desire for his music to be his career, his ease and charm in the limelight are making that dream a reality.

With his own evident individual style, his influences are many and include artists such as Dylan, Coldplay and Death Cab For Cutie.

2012 is shaping up as the biggest highlight to date, winning the TELSTRA ROAD TO DISCOVERY. A 12 month mentorship program tailored to each individual winner (songwriter- Kelly Menhennet /performer-Andrew Redford) Both artists will be flown to Nashville for further music opportunities. Performing at the Golden Guitars as part of the prize package will forever be a highlight of his journey in pursuit of a career in music.

Reviews

By Mardi Lumsden:
19-year-old Andrew Redford is no stranger to the music industry. In 2009 his song City won the Secondary School Category of the Q Song Awards. In 2010 he won the Billy Thorpe Scholarship, which provides a range of support to an emerging artist in Queensland.
This year his song Hey Lucy is a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC). In 2008 Andrew was a Semi Finalist in the ISC with his song Heart of Love and in 2009 the song City got an honourable mention in the same competition.
The multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter grew up travelling between the Mornington Peninsula and the Sunshine Coast and the beach vibe certainly washes its way into his music. It is the sound of someone not trying to be anyone other than himself, which is refreshing from someone so young.
Andrew is clearly exploring his style and song writing. His songs range from folk ballad to pop, and from surf to rock. No doubt whichever way he decides to head he will be rewarded and so will his fans.
